Approach 03: Automation

The Basics

Automation usually means having some sort of machine perform an operation currently performed by a human.

Automation (orange line) has many potential benefits:

  • perform more quickly
  • perform more accurately
  • perform in finer increments
  • perform tirelessly
  • perform in dangerous environments
  • perform more consistently
  • apply more power
  • frees humans to do other things

Examples of Automation

I have developed multiple systems to automatically generate code, complex mathematical functions, and simulations. That increases speed, consistency, and accuracy, and greatly reduces errors.

  • Automated controls for physical processes
  • Self-guided vehicles
  • Robotic Process Automation (RPA): Using crawlers to automatically interact with user interface screens on new or legacy systems
  • Processes spawned on specified triggers, e.g., data archiving, overnight sweeps, automated messaging
  • Business Process Reengineering: Rearranging and automating manual processes through software, document imaging, and so on.
